Breathing Space - Where The Deer and Rhododendron Thrive
The second programme features the beautiful countryside around Killarney, designated as a National Park but had some major problems impacting on the environment there in 1979.
It was suffering from the threat of overcrowding by tourists, who came to see not only the lovely lakes but also the Rhododendrons which by then had transformed the hillsides.
It was emerging though that these lovely imported shrubs were thriving to the virtual exclusion of every other native plant. Fergus O'Gorman looks at the efforts being made to contain both problems.
