Breathing Space - Down the Barrow Line
The first programme features Tom Anderson, now retired, who was once skipper of a barge that ferried Guinness from Dublin to Limerick or Waterford.
His favourite route was the River Barrow, ofter described as Ireland's river Rhine.
The programme follows Tom as he re-traces the route and passes through some of the finest yet least known countryside back in 1979.
On this journey Tom takes the Breathing Space team on a narrow boat down the river from Athy to New Ross, meeting sone of the people whose life, work and pleasure lie along The Barrow including Michael Webster - lock keeper, Bill Duggan - solicitor, Bobby Gill - singer, Artie and Oonagh Corbett who renovated a boat, and Dick Fletcher - a restaurant skipper.
