Mary Kiely lives in North Cork with her son, Bobby. She previously worked as an interior designer, a career which she says helped her develop a thick skin as well as the skill to give clients what they want.
Artisit Kate Wrixon is married to John McGrath who is an engineer. The bought their home in Castleconnell, Co. Limerick three years ago and so far the only colour they have been able to bring into their dreary suburban garden is the blue shed!
Kate and John's garden is very typical of those in new build estates, as it is a small sqaure lawn with no distinguising features. The imposing grey wall at the back of the garden is all that the couple can see from their kitchen window, and their attempts at planting the garden have not been hugely successful to date.
Kate dreams of a lush garden that she can escape to, a garden that is densely planted and is a joy to spend time in. She would love a space that would inspire her artisitically, or simply a spot to read a book and enjoy a coffee in the sunshine. Her husband John comes from a farming background, and he would love some fruit or vegeatables to harvest in the garden.
To realise the couple's dream garden, Mary's garden marries woodland planting with curved lines and colour. The garden will feature a central circular lawn, a paved patio area, an artist's studio and a unique "bubble wall". The design will give the garden an encompassing, peaceful feeling which is sure to inspire Kate's creativity.
