Episodes: 5 & 6

Programme 5: The Downey Sisters/Kilkenny Cats

Altogether they’ve won 12 All-Ireland Camogie medals – 7 of them in a row from 1985 to 1991.

We’re talking about the Kilkenny twins Ann & Angela Downey from Ballyragget who are the focus of this programme.

Their father Shem  - always their greatest supporter - is also featured, as is their coach during that outstanding period, Tom Ryan.

Programme 6: “In the Blood”

Sarsfield’s G.A.A. Club is the focus of this programme. The programme title is a quote of Michael Cooney Snr’s. He’s father of the famous Cooney hurlers from Sarsfield’s, and was talking about the quality of hurling in the family.

He features in tonight’s programme, along with son Joe, as well as members of another famous Sarsfield’s family – the Kellys, particularly Padraig and Peter.

Other contributors include:  Rev. Fr. Michael Byrnes C.C.; Pat Hynes, Sarsfields; David McGann, Sarsfields; Noel Mansfield, Sarsfields; Tom Kenny, Sarsfields; Vincent Kelly; Sean Kenny; Nora Cooney, Catherine Cooney, Paddy Corcoran.

Since this programme was first transmitted Michael Cooney Snr. has, unfortunately, died.
