Crisps and diamonds are forever - or are they?

This week, our two clever scientists at SAPS try an experiment to create the world’s first diamond made from a potato snack. (Diamonds are a transparent form of pure carbon. They are the hardest surface known and are very valuable.)

There is some carbon in crisps so this tempts the scientists to try to recreate the entire process in the laboratory.  The potato snack is placed inside a protective receptacle and pressure on it is increased. The experiment is left unattended for 24 hours – but does the “diamond” get stolen?
