The Chief suffers from jet lag
The Chief suffers from jet lag
Watch video
The Chief keeps nodding off, and our sharp detective, Fintan Brennan, realises that jet lag might be his boss's problem. He investigates the case and finds a solution - but will he be able to keep his boss awake?

What is jet lag?

Jet lag happens when you are travelling and you cross some time zones. Your body clock stays at the old times and takes a few days to readjust to the new time zones. It has to learn to be awake at times when you are usually asleep.

With jet lag, sleep can be disturbed and this affects concentration and energy. Jet lag can also cause upset stomach and disorientation.

How can I avoid it?

Try to get as much daylight as possible. Studies show that daylight decreases the body's production of melatonin which is the hormone which increases tiredness. Stay outdoors if you can.

Other tips are:
  • Reset your watch to the new destination's time straight away
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take exercise
