Cutting Edge: Anechoic Chamber
The Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) is a new €60-million world-class centre in Northern Ireland’s Queen’s University with a unique focus on "blue skies" research, strategic and industrial research projects.
ECIT brings together, in one building, internationally renowned research groups specialising in key areas of advanced digital and communications technology at the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen’s University Belfast.
Its four research clusters cover areas such as broadband wireless communications, electronic data security, image and speech processing, telecommunications software and antenna design for mobile communications.
The institute houses state-of-the-art laboratories and one of the largest RF (microwave and millimetre wave) anechoic chambers in Ireland.
Anechoic Chambers are high tech rooms designed for testing antennae and very sensitive equipment. They are designed so that no electrical or radio signals can interfere with the experiments.
