WESTMEATH - EDEL O’CONNOR

Edel is 25 and a lecturer at Portobello College in Dublin. A native of Moate and with a Master’s in IT Multimedia Technologies Edel is considering undertaking a research project in addition to her lecturing position which she finds “thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding”.

Ladies’ football is important to Edel. In addition to holding a coaching certificate she plays with Moate Ladies GAA Football Team, winning both Junior and Intermediate championships, while she was a member of Trinity College’s All Ireland ‘B’ Championship winning team. Edel has both Bronze and Silver Gaisce awards.

Other hobbies include swimming, movies, playing the flute and backstage coordination with Moate Variety Group. The Westmeath Rose lists sports, music, travelling, cinema and socialising with friends as her likes, dislikes are smoking and unfriendliness. Favourite performers are U2, Coldplay, Paddy Casey and Gwen Stefani.

Edel describes herself as “friendly, energetic, and quite conscientious. I see things through to the end. I love a challenge. I believe others would say I was sincere and adaptable. I am a good communicator.”

What of living and working in Dublin? “I love Dublin because of the opportunities to meet so many new and different people but I love coming home to Moate because when all is said and done there’s no place like home!”
