NEW ORLEANS - DORIAN JOYE

Dorian is 21 and a native of Acadiana, in south central Louisiana. She is a graduate of Loyola University in music and history.

Her career plan is to obtain a doctorate in history, specialising in medieval Irish history and early Irish music. Learning calligraphy and studying old maps are two elements of the study of history that particularly resonate with Dorian. Irish roots are Dublin and Cobh, Co. Cork.

Her hobbies include singing classical, medieval, renaissance and Irish music, learning the tin whistle, cooking rock climbing and Irish dancing. Indeed the energy she previously expended on triathlons and half marathons is now devoted to Irish dancing, as a dancer and teacher.

Likes for the New Orleans Rose are long letters, singing in large empty spaces and laughing. Dishonesty and laziness are her dislikes. Describing herself, Dorian said “I never do anything with less than 150% of my energy, heart and effort, something that can be a blessing and a curse! Perseverance and optimism would be two of my strengths. I keep looking forward and thinking big!”

In the post-Katrina world Dorian says of New Orleans “people are friendly, it is not unusual to have a long conversation with the grocery store cashier or to see someone walking around wearing a giant pumpkin head, New Orleans is anything but dull!”
