MIDLANDS UK - HOLLY McGUIRE
Holly is 19 and spending her gap year as a volunteer Youth Worker with the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham. Her career plan is to practice as a Barrister.
Hobbies for the Midlands UK Rose are generally nautical in nature, achieving a Level 2 in competitive sailing in addition to rowing, canoeing and swimming. Living in rural Derbyshire and summer holidays spent in Killarney has engendered a love of walking in the countryside.
Holly’s likes include family barbecues on Rossbeigh beach, laughter and babies. Turnoffs are picnics, rudeness and toys in boxes of cereal. Favourite entertainers include Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Robbie Williams and Carole King. Describing herself Holly says she is “the oldest of five children and I always picture myself as Liesl in the Von Trapp Family, looking after my younger siblings and trying to lead by example! A warm family upbringing has given me an innate sense of happiness which tends to rub off on other people.”
Holly took part in a reality television programme three years ago when she was one of 30 16-year olds chosen from 30,000 applicants to be placed in a 1950s style boarding school and she “experienced 1950s life, 24 hours a day for 4 weeks right down to the straw boaters and spam fritters!”
