The Nurse

This new series follows Community & Public Health Nurses and their patients, in every corner of Ireland.

Episodes

Episode One

In the first episode, Nurse Mary Walsh needs to call for helicopter assistance when the weather isolates her patient on Inishbofin; In Coolock, Nurse Kirsten Preisler encourages a teenage girl to combine motherhood with education; and in Castleknock, Nurse John Carew fights on behalf of a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer who is struggling to maintain his independence.

Episode Two

This gripping new fly-on-the-wall series continues as Community and Public Health Nurses across Ireland help their patients cope with cancer, multiple sclerosis, amputation and electrocution.

In this second episode, Nurse Kathleen Gilheaney in Swanlinbar. Co. Cavan is literally snowed under, treating an elderly diabetic who is at risk of losing a toe due to the bitterly cold weather. Kathleen is also tending to new mother Caroline who had to undergo cancer surgery while she was pregnant with baby Fearn and which may now lead to further complications.
Meanwhile, on Inishbofin, hours from the nearest hospital, Nurse Mary Walsh can't afford to take any risks with an electrocution victim.

In Coolock in Dublin, Nurse Helen Coyne is keeping a close eye on a 75-year-old widow who is struggling with her health but adamant about holding onto her independence, while on Inishbofin Nurse Mary Walsh is supervising the treatment and understanding of a genetic condition known as 'The Celtic Curse'.
In Dublin's Castleknock, John Carew, one of the country's few male Public Health Nurses, is helping one of his patients readjust to life at home after eight months in hospital.

This week, in the Clare coastal town of Kilkee, where Nurse Sheila Clancy sees more than 15 patients a day, she needs to pay special attention to an expectant mother with a history of high blood pressure, while in Castleknock, Nurse John Carew also has to keep a close eye on a baby boy born with chronic kidney problems. On Inishbofin, Nurse Mary Walsh is called out for a 4.00am emergency where the wounded patient's only request is for tea.

Programme Five

The fifth programme in this brand new six part observational series finds Inishbofin Public Health Nurse Mary Walsh being very protective of an expectant mother who is about to produce the island's first new baby in three years!

Cavan Community Nurse Kathleen Gilheaney dedicates time to a patient who may lose a limb, but hopefully not his spirit; and in Dublin, Nurse Helen Coyne does everything in her power to make one patient's wedding anniversary very special.
