Born one hundred years ago, Máirtín Ó Cadhain was the most acclaimed author of twentieth century prose in Irish. He was a giant among writers and practised the art of the short story and the novel to international standards. In his public life he was involved in most of the political campaigns and controversies which have shaped Irish life over the past few generations. His compelling personality ensured that he could not be ignored during his lifetime and his writing ability in every genre continues to demand both attention and recognition.
