Getaways

A new six part series of Getaways presented by Angela Scanlon and Joe Lindsay.

In this new series, Joe and Angela collect passport stamps in the USA, Austria, Italy, France and Greece.

Stateside, Kennedy Space Centre captures their imagination before a cruise down the coast to sub-tropical Florida Keys.? Doing it like the locals, Joe & Angela have a go at conch shell blowing, tuck into Key Lime Pie and lift off in Jetpacks. Their American adventure continues in Miami where they discover life's a beach at "SoBe" (or?South Beach?to visitors) and they explore the arty side of the city in Little Havana.

It's a winter sports getaway in the Austrian Alps where they test their nerve snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Bad Hofgastein is famous for its' thermal waters so there's a bit of spa time before a day trip to Salzburg, for a musical pilgrimage to Mozart's birthplace and a skip through the Mirabell gardens, the location for iconic scenes from family classic "The Sound of Music".

They travel to the Ionian island of Zante (or Zakynthos), famed for its' white sandy beaches. A favourite is photogenic Navagio, also known as "Shipwreck Cove". And Joe & Angela drag themselves away from the beach to travel to the Greek mainland, for a visit to ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Did you know over two thousand years ago the male athletes competed in the nude?!

In Italy they kick back in Puglia, one of the less known regions on the country's tourist trail, found "at the heel of the boot". A signature sight is the white-washed collection of conical-roofed "Trulli" houses in Alberobello. Baroque architecture, ancient farmhouses and of course pasta aplenty make theirs an a la carte menu of tourist must-sees.

Nantes in Southern Brittany has been tagged "the loopiest city in France" and our pair will find out why. The once industrial city has become a huge outdoor gallery, with a ten mile green line taking you on a trail with implausibly large modern artworks. To get around the city? What else, but a 12-metre high mechanical elephant! Sacre bleu!
