Arts Lives: Fintan O'Toole: Power Plays

Garry Hynes and Robert Sheehan

Joined by internationally acclaimed director Garry Hynes and actors Sean McGinley, Marie Mullen and Robbie Sheehan, writer Fintan O'Toole claims that our theatre failed us during the boom and asks if playwrights can now rise to the challenge of dramatising a society in crisis.

Throughout his career in Ireland and the USA as a critic, biographer and columnist, Fintan O'Toole has made provocative connections between the way we live and the theatre we make and watch.

In Fintan O'Toole: Power Plays, joined by internationally acclaimed director Garry Hynes and actors Sean McGinley, Marie Mullen and Robbie Sheehan, he takes a fresh look at some of the moments in Irish theatre which touched a raw nerve.

And, beginning the story with his own life-changing encounters with great drama, O'Toole asks if our theatre failed us during the boom. Can writers and directors rise now to the challenge of dramatising a society in crisis?
