Broadcast live from Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on RTÉ One on Easter Monday, this special television event, will tell the story of modern Ireland through music, dance and song.
Artists confirmed for Centenary include Imelda May, Jack L, Gavin James, The High Kings, Colm Wilkinson, Danny O'Reilly, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Sharon Shannon, Dónal Lunny, John Sheahan, Celine Byrne, and Seo Linn.
Dance troupes from across the island of Ireland, including CoisCéim and aerialists Fidget Feet, will take centre stage on the night along with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and choirs from around the country to perform songs that have become part of the Irish psyche. There will also be musical performances from the historically significant locations of Kilmainham Gaol and The Garden of Remembrance.
President Michael D Higgins will also attend and will address the audience and viewers during the event.
Centenary Executive Producer Cilian Fennell said "Join us for this unique television event telling stories of Ireland through multiple art forms. With a fantastic line-up of performers and using state of the art technology, it promises to be a truly modern telling of the story of our foundation as a Republic and the struggles and sacrifices of those who built the country we have today."
Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, T.D. said, "Centenary promises to be an exhilarating conclusion to the State's Easter Weekend commemorative programme. Artists played a key role in the lead up to the Rising, so it is fitting that the best of Irish arts and culture will take centre stage as we explore this nation's story over the last 100 years. While this weekend's events are rooted in respectful commemoration, this special concert will allow for celebration; celebration of our Irishness, our arts and our culture over the last century."
As part of the show Danny O'Reilly from The Coronas has joined forces with his sister Róisín O and cousin Aoife Scott to record a very special version of "Grace" live in Kilmanham Gaol. You can view a sneak peak here https://youtu.be/uUgt3xC40WU
Centenary will be broadcast live on RTÉ One and to the diaspora around the world on RTÉ Player International on Easter Monday, 28 March 2016 from 9:35pm.
