Past Winners
The longevity of the People of the Year Awards is due in no small measure to the unique mix of winners - from unsung heroes who have quietly made a difference and enhanced the lives of others in communities the length and breadth of the island, to the household names who have made a real difference to people's lives on a national and international level.
Past winners of People of the Year Awards read like a Who's Who of Ireland's greatest achievers and best known names - Padraig Harrington, Mary Robinson, Bob Geldof, Terry Wogan, Christy Moore, Sonia O'Sullivan, John Hume, T.K. Whitaker and the late Veronica Guerin. These people, along with the 250 or so others to be honoured, have made very different, yet extraordinary contributions to life in Ireland since the Awards were first established in 1975.
Moreover, every winner has been chosen by the people of Ireland through a nominations process and finalised by a panel of adjudicators comprising leading members of the media, business, public service and community sectors.
