About the Presenter
Gráinne Seoige presents RTÉ's flagship late-afternoon daytime show, Seoige. Season three will return to RTÉ One in October, when new co-presenter Síle Seoige joins the Seoige team. As well as presenting this year's People of the Year Awards, Gráinne will co-present RTÉ Television's popular Up For The Match specials, in September, with Des Cahill.
Gráinne Seoige began her career on October 31, 1996 with the launch of Teilifís na Gaeilge (now TG4) anchoring the 10pm news bulletin. Gráinne subsequently went on to work at TV3 for four years where she anchored its daily news bulletins. She also worked on occasion as a presenter on the station's breakfast show, Ireland AM. In February 2006, Gráinne began presenting overnight bulletins on Sky News. Later, she presented Sky News Today from 9am to 12pm, filling in for the regular presenters. After her brief stint at the Sky News Centre in London, Gráinne returned to Dublin to continue to front Sky News Ireland each weekday evening.
Raised in Spiddal, Co. Galway, Gráinne's father Mairtín, a garda, and her mother Phil, a native Irish speaker from Inishmeáin, raised their children in a bilingual household. Her command of Irish was an obvious asset but so too were her unflappable interview style and her good looks.
She is the only news anchor to have presented the inaugural news bulletins on two Irish terrestrial stations - TV3 and TG4, and she will be the first television personality to have worked with all four Irish television stations - TG4, TV3, Sky News Ireland and RTÉ. In 2004, she was a very popular winner of the VIP Style Awards.
Educated at Mercy Convent, Spiddal, County Galway, Gráinne graduated with honours in English, Sociology and Political Science from University College Galway before completing a Higher Diploma in Applied Communications for Television and Radio, also at UCG.
Gráinne is the Patron of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) and in her spare time she follows GAA and Premiership Football.
