It was with the release of their second album, 1988's seminal 'The Trinity Session', that Canada's The Cowboy Junkies came to a wider international audience. Recorded at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto in the space of one night, the album mapped out some of the roads that would be travelled by the American roots and alt.country movements in the subsequent decade.
Since then, The Cowboy Junkies have continued to release acclaimed albums like 'Black Eyed Man' and 'Pale Sun, Crescent Moon' and built up a very loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic. They may have said that they have only ever written "one happy song", but their sad ones have brought joy - and no doubt comfort - to many.
Now in their 20th year together, The Cowboy Junkies released their new album, 'One Soul Now', in May 2004. It marked the first time in their nine-studio album career that the core quartet of Michael (guitar), Margo (vocals) and Peter Timmins (drums) and Alan Anton (bass) had self-produced and engineered a record entirely by themselves.
