A bubbly and vivacious quintet from Dublin, The Chalets have become a band of the moment via infectious, post-punk melodies and a fine line in style and visual panache. They were the winners of the Hope for 2005 award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in February and have drawn comparisons to Belle & Sebastian, the B-52s, The Breeders and, as their biography puts it, "anything else fun".
A late night out and some singing afterwards convinced Chris (Bass, Vocals) that Paula (Keyboards, Vocals) should join the band he had just formed with school friends Enda (Guitar, Vocals) and Dylan (Drums). Paula insisted that mutual friend Caoimhe (Keyboards, Vocals) should share the mic too and so The Chalets were born. Within a short space of time they were supporting the likes of The Shins, The Detroit Cobras and Holly Golightly but also headlining their own shows.
The Chalets' first record was a split single with Neosupervital on Dublin indie label RoadRelish, followed by the AA single 'Theme From Chalets' and 'Sexy Mistake'. The latter song was chosen by MTV as the backing track for the music channel's branding campaign in Ireland. A memorable 2004 was rounded off with 'The Night Rock EP', The Chalets' first music on CD. The band's debut album is due for release later this year.
