Annie Mac
Annie Mac is an accomplished DJ & presenter best known for co-hosting the weekly BBC2 TV series Sound, and presenting BBC Radio 1's Switch with Annie Mac - both of which showcase the best of new music, live performances and interviews in the UK. Annie also presents her hugely popular Mash Up shows on BBC Radio 1.
Born and bred in Dublin as part of a large, very musical family, Annie left home at 17 for Queen's University, Belfast to do a degree in English Lit. Whilst studying, she discovered Shine, Belfast's biggest techno club, and, after two months of going every week, secured a job helping to promote and market the club nights.
It was there that she first saw some of dance music's heavyweights - Laurent Garnier, Justin Robertson, Andy Weatherall and Cajmere - DJ to a rapt audience, and this provided the inspiration to buy her first set of decks. Within a couple of years she had moved to London to pursue a career in music radio and DJ'ing.
Her broadcasting career began in July 2004, when, as a virtual unknown, she impressed Radio 1 bosses with her demos. Since then Annie's shows have attracted a host of loyal followers from around the world, (her shows sit comfortably in the Top 20 "most listened to again" programmes in BBC Radio) and Annie has established herself firmly in part of Radio 1's specialist output, as well as regularly stepping in for the mainstream presenters.
Annie is also a regular contributor for BBC2's The Culture Show, has guest presented BBC TV's Top of the Pops and is a regular on-site presenter for the BBC coverage of festivals such as T In The Park, Glastonbury, and the many Radio 1 Big Weekends, to name but a few. She has also worked for MTV2, presenting cult programme Gonzo.
