Sonny Condell
A mainstay of the Irish music scene since the 1970s, Sonny Condell was a member of Irish musical trailblazers Tír na nÓg and the hugely influential Scullion, which went on to release four acclaimed albums before deciding on "semi-retirement" in 1989. They reformed in 2001 to re-record 'Eyelids into Snow' and 'Down in the City' for the anthology 'Eyelids into Snow (A Collection)'. Condell has released four solo albums and formed The Sonny Condell Band in 2003. With influences ranging from folk to jazz to rock, the quintet's new album, 'Navigation', is due out in May.

Clive Barnes
One of Ireland's best-kept secrets - but probably not for too much longer - Wexford's Clive Barnes hitches a ride across genres. With blues and jazz the starting points for any of his trips, Barnes has found himself praised in the same company as JJ Cale, Ry Cooder and Kelly Joe Phelps. A veteran of the touring circuit in the US (stop-offs, he says include Dismal Swamp and Skunk Hollow) Barnes has supported the likes of The Blind Boys of Alabama and Solomon Burke. He released his latest album 'Goldtooth Cinnamon' in 2004.

The Cowboy Junkies
It was with the release of their second album, 1988's seminal 'The Trinity Session', that Canada's The Cowboy Junkies came to a wider international audience. Recorded at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto in one night, the album mapped out some of the roads that would be travelled by the American roots and alt.country movements in the subsequent decade. Since then, The Cowboy Junkies have continued to release acclaimed albums like 'Black Eyed Man' and 'Pale Sun, Crescent Moon' and built up a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic. The Cowboy Junkies released their new album, 'One Soul Now', in May 2004.
