We talk with one of Ireland's leading fashion designers Sharon Wauchob...
She's one of our great success stories on the international fashion scene. Tyrone born Sharon Wauchob is competing and holding her own against the giants of the industry. After graduating from Saint Martins in London Sharon set up her own label in France in 1998. We meet the woman herself to find out more.
Sharon loves the industry simple because you can combine the artistic element of designing with the business side of it. The greatest challenge when setting up your own label is competing internationally as a young label against more established names in the competitive market in France and further afield. "When you start out you don't realise how though its going to be but it's the same with any business when you're competing internationally." Over the last few collections Sharon has begun to develop her signature look. She has incorporated the idea of accessories into the actual garment instead of having a separate accessories collection. Sharon always tries to keep in mind what a woman really wants when she's designing something new. "I wanted my tops this season to work with a pair of jeans. Although I wanted them to be different I wanted them to be accessible"
Sharon gives us some tips for any young designers starting out.
1. Get experience in the industry
2. Get involved hands on
3. Discover for yourself the different facets in the industry
4. Find out what suits you best and focus on that
