Kerry Colson, a white South African woman, has made a life for herself and her family in the Connemara Gaeltacht. Bob first meets Kerry at her craft shop, An Siopa Buí, in Spiddal and follows her back to her house in Derryrush in the heart of Connemara.
Kerry acknowledges that they were financially better off in South Africa, but that their lifestyle came at a high price. They had a bigger house, home help, more holidays, but lived in a gilded cage, due to rising levels of violence in South Africa.
Bob travels back to Johannesburg to meet Kerry's elderly parents, her brother and her young family. He has a close encounter with one of the Big Five in Kruger National Park and drinks a drop of the black stuff in a shebeen in Soweto. After enjoying South Africa's Rugby World Cup victory on the streets of Jo'burg and a celebratory barbeque with Kerry's family he travels back to Derryrush with a message for Kerry and her son David.
