Some facts about David O'Doherty ...
David O'Doherty is the professional name of David O'Doherty, comedian, writer and 1990 East Leinster Under 14 triple jump bronze medallist.
- He was born twelve days before Tiger Woods.
- He shares his name with a mathematician, a violinist and one of Australia's top barristers.
- If David had been born a girl he would have been called Bridget.
- David O'Doherty has an excellent rapport with most dogs.
David started doing stand up comedy in 1998. In 1999 he won the Channel 4 'So You Think You're Funny' competition for newcomers. In 2000 he wrote a book for children. In 2002 he wrote a play with his friend Bryan that involved live repair of audience members' bikes. In 2006 his show 'David O'Doherty is my name' was nominated for the if.com Best Show award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and then nominated for the Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
He does not know how to describe his comedy, but there are usually songs played on miniature keyboards and not all that much moving around. He has performed it at festivals in Montreal, Adelaide, Melbourne, Wellington, New York, and Kilkenny and on tours around Britain, America and Australia.
In 2006 he recorded his first live album "Giggle Me Timbers' (or 'Jokes Ahoy!')" at home in his flat in Dublin, in front of 35 people.
The Modest Adventures of David O'Doherty is his first TV series.
