Episode Twelve

It's the MasterChef Final and Bridin, Mary and Mike will have three hours to use everything they have learned over the last six weeks to cook an exceptional three-course meal for Dylan and Nick.

Tonight one of these three exceptional amateur cooks will win the coveted title of the first-ever MasterChef Ireland and the prize of €25,000.

From over 1000 applications from across Ireland, just fifty people made it through to the audition stage of the first ever MasterChef Ireland. Out of that 50 the Final 16 MasterChef contestants were chosen by Nick and Dylan to compete for the coveted title of MasterChef Ireland and a prize of €25,000.

Sixteen became twelve after the ‘You On A Plate’ challenge in Programme 3 when Mandy, Nadia, Jackie and Kevin were eliminated. Grant and Barry left the competition after the ‘Foodies Dinner’ in Programme 4 and Jarek was out of the competition after the French Cuisine challenge in Programme 5. Richard was eliminated the Programme 6 after the John Murray Show walker lunch task and the Taste Test. Programme 7 saw the departure of Conal after the Roger Pizey masterclass and the Afternoon Tea challenge. In Programme 8 Pierce and Shane were eliminated after the Indian cuisine challenge. In Programme 9 it was Clare Anne’s turn to go home after the Fishing challenge and the John Burton Race Masterclass. Christine was the next go in Programme 10 after her poor showing in the Residence service and Dylan’s signature dish. In Programme 11 the Final Three were put through their paces in some of Ireland’s finest Michelin one- and two-star restaurants.

It’s Final week on MasterChef Ireland and the search for Ireland’s first ever MasterChef ends tonight. Now Mary, Bridin and Mike will battle it out for the coveted title.

The Task

In the final episode we get a rare chance to find out more about the MasterChef Ireland finalists and see them in their normal environments.

We see Bridin at work in the Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire, at home with her husband and hosting a meal for her family.

We follow Mike as he searches in Kilkee for potential spaces for his dream restaurant, has a family lunch and travels to Limerick to his workplace.

We meet Mary’s husband and mother, follow her to her high-powered job and spend time with her on her lunch hour at one of her favourite pastimes, browsing cookbooks.

The relaxation comes to an end and the contestants are back in the Masterchef kitchen where Dylan and Nick give them their final MasterChef task.

For the final task of the series the contestants will have three hours to cook a three-course meal of their own design inspired by the last six weeks. It is their final chance to cook in the MasterChef kitchen and prove that they are worthy of the title.

Mary’s Menu:

The judges are impressed with Bridin’s menu and pleased with the standard she achieves.

Despite a slightly misfiring starter, Mike’s menu seriously impresses the judges. They agree that he has come from nowhere to put in a remarkable performance.

Mary is disappointed with elements of her menu but, as always, she is her own harshest critic and the judges feel that she has produced a superb meal.

There can be only one winner though and when the judges call the final three together they announce the winner as Mary Carney – MasterChef Ireland Champion 2011.
