The Lugworm is a common type of worm that can be found on shores all around Ireland and Britain. They dig deep down into the sand leaving little pile of what looks like spaghetti on the surface. Their burrows are often U or J shaped and when in them, they take in sand which is then process through their body. Taking in all the nutrients, the sand is then disposed of at the rear tip of its body. These are the piles of sand we see on the shore. The colour of the Lugworm can vary from pink and red to Brown or Green.
