In the first episode of the series, we join dedicated slow foodies Peter and Mary Ward from Nenagh, as they attempt to run a parmesan farm, shop, agri-turismo and busy restaurant near the pretty town of Salsomaggiore, 40 minutes south of Milan in the famous Emiglia-Romana region of Italy.
Peter and Mary Ward are serious about food. Peter is the chairman of the Tipperary branch of the Irish slow food association, and the couple have owned their own organic food store "Country Choice" in Nenagh for the last 25 years. As their 3 children are quickly growing up, Peter and Mary, who've always had a passion for everything Italian, are considering making a move to Italy.
Their week in Salsomaggiore won't be a holiday however, and they will face the many challenges that come with embarking on a new business and living in a foreign country. With no grasp of the italian language how will Peter converse with Master cheesemaker Guido? How will Mary manage in the shop? And what will happen when the couple host their own Irish night in the restaurant? They're catering for 40 but it looks as though the whole village has turned up...
Join the Wards on their journey of discovery - and find out, when their week is up, will they move back to Nenagh for good or decide to make a life for themselves in Italy.
