FRIDGE: Fridge is 26 and works as a stone mason. His wife Harriet has just died, killed by a joy-rider. He is left to raise his two young children by himself. Fridge's real name is Fred: his laidback, cool style has led to his nickname.
ZOEY: Fridge's young daughter.
SKITTLES: Fridge's son, a toddler. His real name is Orlando.
GRANDAD: Fridge's father. They don't always get on.
JACINTA: Willy's ex-girlfriend. She still lives next door to Fridge. She was Harriet's best friend.
WILLY: Willy is Fridge's best friend. He is a barman. He used to live next door to Fridge, but not so long ago his relationship with Jacinta ended and he moved into a grotty flat.
SAOIRSE: Willy and Jacinta's daughter. She lives with Jacinta and is Zoey's best friend.
BARRY: Jacinta's new boyfriend. He has just moved in with her. Willy resents it.
BIANCA: Barmaid, and friend to Jacinta. She fancies Fridge.
DANCER: Small-time drug dealer, now branching out into loan-sharking. Long ago, before he became a loser, Dancer used to be friends with Fridge and Willy. Real name, Daniel.
EARS: Dancer's younger brother. He deals stolen goods from a bag he carries round the estate. Real name, Rory.
BERNIE: Dancer and Ears' mother. She was widowed at a young age and has raised the boys herself. Turns a blind eye to their wrong-doings.
CHIVERS: Fridge's boss and friend. Chivers is caught between sympathy for Fridge and the need to run his business .
ANIMAL: Works with Chivers and Fridge.
STALE OR STOLEN: Runs the local shop stocked exclusively with goods that appear to be stale or stolen - hence his name.
THE MAMMY: Essentially a gangster, he's been the "law" on the estate for as long as anyone can remember.
TONY ONE, TONY TWO, TOURIST: All work for The Mammy and form part of the notorious Big Four
PLAIN JAMES: A detective recently posted back to the estate who would love to catch the Mammy for something.
