The News every night tells the big picture - the building boom is over - house prices are down - interest rates are up - there's an end to the record number of houses that have been built in recent years - but what's the story behind the headlines? In Galway one gang of building workers know what " the soft landing" - " the readjustment" really means!

Cóilín Joe Bhrídín MacDonncha and Tomás Ó Curraoin have between them spent almost 40 years working for the same building company in Galway and in England before that. Cóilín's son Peter had worked with the company for 5 1/2 years in December last, Peter was let go. In March the veterans follow him to the dole queue. Léargas spent time with them in the weeks before the end and documents their stories.
