Michael hails from Killererin in Co. Galway and is a well known sports broadcaster with RTÉ.
Known to many as the face of Gaelic Athletic Association on RTÉ, Lyster has presented The Sunday Game since the late 1970's winning a Jacob's Awards for the programme in 1988. In addition to the G.A.A., Michael has also covered a wide range of sports programmes for RTÉ, including Horseracing, Motorsport, Greyhound racing, Ahletics, Rugby and Soccer.
Lyster has covered seven Olympic Games since joining the station. The first being Moscow in 1980 whilst he working for Radio Sport; later in 1984 he made his television Olympic debut, co-hosting with Moya Doherty on Daybreak LA (RTÉ's first venture into breakfast television).
Lyster is also a keen rally driving enthuasiast which he has done for 15 years, partaking in all the main events including the Cork International Rally where he finished third in 1992, the Circuit of Ireland Rally and the Killarney Rally of the Lakes. His co-driver is Irish Independent sports writer Vincent Hogan.
