Eoin is a G.A.A. hurling all star hailing from Co. Waterford. He plays hurling with his local club Shamrocks and with the Waterford senior inter-county team. During his childhood years he attended St. Colmans school in Fermoy. It was here Murphy began to distinguish himself winning a Dean Ryan medal and a Dr. Harty cup. After the Dean Ryan win Murphy was so delighted he sang (out of tune) all the way home on the bus! Murphy was also the cause of many school pranks and was known a well known funny man around St. Colmans!
Murphy went on to study in UCC, winning his first Fitzgibbon cup in 1997. He made his senior championship début for Waterford in 2001 winning his first Munster medal the following year in what was Waterford's first provincial title since 1963. Two years later in 2004 Murphy won a second Munster medal following a defeat of Cork in, what has been described as, the greatest Munster final of all-time.
In 2007 Murphy won a National Hurling League medal following a victory over Kilkenny in the final and later collected a third Munster title following a win over surprise finalists Limerick. As a result of this win Murphy is a member of a unique group of players from Waterford who have won three provincial medals.
