MICHAEL AND MAIREAD - SPAIN

Michael and Mairead Dayton from Carlow have their hearts set on an apartment close to the beach in Peurto Banus. Their budget is €200,00. They have seen a number of apartments but haven't yet found the right one yet.

This week's first viewing is a one bedroom apartment within walking distance of the beach at Peurto Banus and it's well within their budget at €150,000. It has a shared pool and comes fully furnished.

It also has a large fitted kitchen, a window in the bathroom (something Michael is keen on) and a sizeable but unkempt garden. Michael and Mairead like this one the best so far. It's near the beach and fits all of their other requirements. With the various taxes it will cost €165,000, and that's still well within budget.

They have one last place to view before we leave them. t's a new one bed apartment for just €126,000. It's very spacious at 1,130 sq ft. It's unfurnished with a south west facing terrace. The terrace faces on to the pool. But this is the main attraction that puts Mairead off. There are too many apartments in the complex with a very small piece of land around them.

So we leave Michael and Mairead saying no to that apartment but deciding to look a little bit more and then making an offer on the first apartment. The one for €150,000. Unfortunately when they did go back to make an offer the apartment was already gone.

It must have been a bargain after all!
