Emily Symons returns to Summer Bay as the iconic ‘ditzy blonde’ beautician Marilyn. Emily starred on Home and Away for 10 years (1989-1999), best remembered as the wife of Summer Bay High headmaster Donald (Flathead) Fisher, and has remained a fan favourite since.

UK consumed with grief after the death of her and Donald’s son Byron. Marilyn reappeared briefly when Donald travelled to the UK looking for answers, but she was not ready to return. Now, for reasons soon to be revealed, Marilyn has decided that she wants to live her life to the fullest in the place she feels most happy, and that’s Summer Bay.

During her time on Home and Away, Emily also appeared in eight Pantomimes in the UK, playing characters such as Snow White, Cinderella and Goldilocks. In 2000, Emily permanently relocated to England where she worked on a diverse range of shows.

Her work as Louise Appleton on the highly successful British soap Emmerdale (2001-2009) earned Emily a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress. She was also nominated a number of times in the Best Actress and Sexiest Female categories at the British Soap Awards and the Irish Soap Awards. Emmerdale is watched in 27 countries around the world with 10 million viewers each night in the UK alone.

Also in the UK Emily was a regular panelist on the daily chat show Loose Women (itv), and appeared as a regular guest on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Emily also appeared as a special guest on hit shows The X Factor, The Sharon Osborne Show (itv), Alan Titchmarsh Show (itv), Today with Des and Mel (itv), The John Daly Show (BBC) and more.

n January 2007 Emily joined the line up for Torvil and Dean’s Celebrity Dancing on Ice. Emily’s bubbly personality and sense of humor were a hit with the show’s 12 million viewers and led her to the semi finals.

Emily moved back to Australia in October 2008 and started filming in late 2009.

On arrival she was met by some old friends and familiar faces in Summer Bay "It’s great to work with Ray Meagher, Lynne McGranger, and Lyn Collingwood again," she said. "And I look forward to getting to know the rest of the cast; it is great fun to be playing Marilyn again."
