The artist formerly know as 'Mikey' was destined for a career as a mechanic when, at the age of 21, he attended a boy band audition along with other unknowns Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch. Under the watchful eye of manager Louis Walsh, the five Dubliners became a pop music powerhouse with a meteoric rise to fame and spent the next seven years making Irish pop music history. Michael, one of the band's key songwriters, played a pivotal role to the band's success. Boyzone went on to achieve 5 number 1 records, sell more than 10 million albums and play sell-out tours across the world.
In his early years Michael formed part of the Billy Barry stable of talent with all the associated jazz hands, musical numbers and drama training. So after the Boyzone split, Michael turned his focus towards that childhood passion - acting. He went on to refine his skills during a sojourn in The Gaiety School of Acting. With two feature films already under his belt - 'Hey Mr. DJ' with Mike Reid and 'Man on The Run' with Ben Kingsley - Michael has signed with top showbiz actor's agency, Julian Benson Management.
Michael relives the heydays of Boyzone this May with the much publicised Back Again No Matter What Tour around the UK and Ireland. In between all this, he has still found time to marry the love of his life, Karen and have his second child, Sienna.
