Shopping abroad

Orla from Co. Dublin

For the past four years Orla has travelled to New York for the sales, where she spends 4 days shopping until she drops.  Bringing $1,700 with her, what Orla manages to buy for her money, just beggars belief.

Orla books her flights and accommodation online a year in advance to avail of some great deals.  She travels with friends and they share a room. They live on fast food and coffee, only going out one night for a proper meal. However this is more to kill time until the shops open at midnight when they begin their Thanksgiving sales.

An average shopping day would be; get up early and out to Woodbury Common or Jersey Gardens to shop all day, Orla then returns to town to shop in Macys until it closes. Only then will she return to her hotel to sleep.

Please bear in mind that you are only legally allowed to bring in goods with a combined value of no more than €175 free of duty.  Goods with a combined cost of more than that must legally be declared and duty applied for further information check
