About The Show
Highly Recommended is a new six part lifestyle consumer show presented by Joe Duffy. Members of the public compete each week to convince a panel of consumer experts that their deal shoould be Highly Recommended..
The consumers pitch their bargains to Joe, the panel and the studio audience. Our panel of experts will then scrutinise these deals while Joe will interview members of the studio audience for their opinions and experiences of these types of deals. If the deal stays strong throughout the debate and the panel are convinced it should be Highly Recommended the consumer wins €2000.
Issues covered may range from health insurance, medical and dental holidays, electrical goods, online shopping, weddings and many more. The verdict is only the Panel’s opinion each week we want you to vote free on our online poll and tell us if you Highly Recommend the featured deals. The results will be featured at the start of the following show.
Your Host: Joe Duffy
Joe is delighted to be hosting this series. He believes Highly Recommended is a good news consumer programme for a change and will show the audience how to get the most our of their money.
Joe swapped his job as a social worker for a career in RTE 18 years ago. He spent ten years as a reporter on the Gay Byrne show and worked on several other programmes including Soundbyte before taking over Liveline where he is known to get the people's story. Similar to Liveline, on Highly Recommended the stories come from the audience. The phrase 'Rip Off Ireland' which we believe originated on Liveline will be challenged.
The HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Experts are:
Ben Dunne has been one of the most controversial figures in the Irish retail industry. When it comes to better value this man beats them all. He’s seen it, done it, bought the tee shirt and sold it for a handsome profit!
Journalist Conor Pope is responsible for the ever-popular Pricewatch, which has appeared every Monday in The Irish Times for more than three years. Retailers who thought they could get away with shortchanging customers have lived to regret locking horns with this consumer champion.
Barbara is a freelance journalist who has written a range of articles on topics such as taxation, the global economy and consumer issues such as shopping in New York and property. From Moore Street to Macys this lady knows the value of goods and services across the globe.
