The Mentors
As two veterans of the hit TV series Guerrilla Gourmet, and a series of HEAT under their belts, both Kevin Dundon and Kevin Thornton know how to cook outside the box and have a razor sharp competitive instrinct. Now, once more, they have to hand the kitchen over to amateurs and watch from the sideline.
The chefs have contrasting styles. Kevin Thornton is the great philosopher of Irish food. He cooks, therefore he is. His passion, understanding and drive to bring excellence to the plate has made him Ireland's highest achieving chef. Never far from controversy, Kevin has something to say about everything and is not afraid to dig his heels in, stick his foot in it, or put his money where his mouth is when it comes to cooking... and winning. He didn't mentor the winning chef last year so he will not want to beaten twice!
Meanwhile Kevin Dundon, who mentored Paul Mahon to become the 2008 HEAT champion, is the canny, savvy, smooth talking chef whose expanding culinary empire is ruled from his acclaimed Dunbrody House. Kevin looks to his surrounding Wexford for inspiration and believes that the local produce is the best in the world, helping him cook some of the best food in Ireland. Unlike Kevin Thornton, Dundon tends to be more crafty and considered in his approach to business and is sure to use every tactic at his disposal to see his cooking protégés triumph in RTÉ's HEAT.
