Hands On

This Week - Sunday 18th June 2006

This week on the Best Of Hands On, we check on the progress of our health volunteers. You'll get a second chance to see Sean preview the CID's strategic review, we have a Video Diary from two of our younger viewers and Teresa Lynch chats with Josephine O Leary, the first Lady of Irish Deaf TV.

Health and Fitness

We get a second chance to see Sarah Jane catch up with the dieters for their final weigh-in before Christmas. She asks them how the plan is working for them. And the girls who didn't turn up for the weigh-in get a surprise visit from Hands On!

Catholic Institute for the Deaf

At the Deaf Club, Sean meets Fr. Michael Cullen, the chairperson of the Catholic Institute for the Deaf. The Institution has hired independent consultant, Philip Ryan, (who is also interviewed) to conduct a strategic review of what the CID is about and what it is trying to achieve. Sean asks what they think the report will reveal, if it will be generally available to the Deaf community and whether more Deaf people will be welcomed onto on the CID board.

Twins

Cameron and Wesley Ward are 15 years old twins who are pupils at St. Joseph's School for the Deaf. They took a camera for a week to show us what their lives are like since moving to Ireland from the US.

Teresa's Column

Teresa Lynch meets Josephine O'Leary at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park. They discuss Josephine's numerous roles within the Deaf community, from her work on Sign of the Times, to her involvement in the Dublin Deaf Theatre. Josephine also discusses becoming Deaf as a child, meeting her husband Patrick O' Leary, and caring for him since his stroke, ten years ago.

Molly and Mr. Milk. (Letter X)

This week Molly and Mr. Milk have an adventure, in the land of X. Molly and Mr. Milk find a map and go digging for treasure!
