The Chef: Dan Mullane

Dan Mullane is a Limerick man born and bred. His landmark restaurant The Mustard Seed is also a product of the county with much of the food being grown in Dan's adjacent vegetable garden. Dan went to catering college straight after leaving school and believes the time spent grafting in Cathal Brugha Street has given him a fantastic life full of opportunity and adventure. Dan's emphasis is on hospitality, generosity and the personal touch. Despite the continued accolades he receives Dan says he will never dilute his winning formula by opening up another restaurant because his existing customers take priority. Dan's world view was shaped when he boarded in Blackrock College, an exclusive school on Dublin's southside. Its here that Dan wants to prove that the little lad from Limerick can pull off an outstanding Guerrilla Gourmet experience.


The Venue: Blackrock College

Blackrock College is synonymous with many things - privilege, rugby and academia to name but a few. The school was founded in 1860 and has been the alumni of some of Ireland's leading politicians, writers and businessmen including another well known son of Limerick, Eamon de Valera. Once a thriving boarding school, Blackrock has seen the numbers of boarders dwindle over the years as times change. Tradition is one of the pillars upon which the College is built and this inspired Dan to return to his alma mater to serve up a traditional school dinner of his time with a 21 st Century gourmet makeover.

Free Range Pork Sausages with a Mixed Bean Cassoulet and Basil Pesto
