Fresh from the Sea : Programme 6

The busy fishing port of Dunmore East is Clodagh's base for this programme which starts with a trip with lobster fisherman Martin Simpson. It's choppy, but they catch a lobster and a conger eel. Back on shore, Clodagh meets Martin's father Trevor who helped to introduce the highly succcessful Bord Iascaigh Mhara lobster V - notching programme, which has helped ensure lobster stocks are replenished and maintained - already, the results are positive.

Safety at sea is paramount and Clodagh goes to meet Jim Griffin, Area officer at the Dunmore East Coastguard at Waterford Airport, where one of the country's six Sikorsky helicopters are based. The helicopter is being prepared to an exercise - lowering the winchman into the coastguard's RIB - and Jim invites Clodagh to join them in the boat.

Line-caught mackerel are highly prized for their quality and Clodagh joins Alan Adams on the very last day of the mackerel season, before Alan switches gear and starts fishing for shrimp. The fishing trip isn't a huge success, and ends in (entertaining) disaster!

After an action packed day in Dunmore East, Clodagh visits Waterford Castle, situated on its own island. The castle is now a hotel and head chef Michael Quinn cooks one of Martin's lobsters with Clodagh.
