Marie Murphy developed an exercise programme which includes a combination of walking and resistance training. Last year the Irish Cancer Society launched the programme. The results came out a few weeks back and were really positive
Marie Murphy - former Irish Olympian runner and exercise specialist who co-ordinated the Programme. As an elite athlete, Mary Murphy ran in the 1988 Olympics for Ireland. She spent 26 years working as a coach in LA before returning to Ireland.

Rosemary Phelan - participant in the pilot physical activity programme and breast cancer survivor. Rosemary is 52, living in Leixlip and is married with three children (18-26) and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 when she was 49. She found the lump herself.
The survival rate currently for Breast Cancer is at 80%. We now know that women can reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 42% by making lifestyle changes such as being more physically active, drinking less alcohol and having a better diet.
