Dún Laoghaire is set once again for a spectacular global carnival weekend, which will see 800 musicians and artists, plus another 1,000 participants and volunteers descend on the seaside town to take part in 150 live gigs, performances and events throughout the town.

This year’s programme offers a cultural cavalcade of music and arts, with a stellar line-up of headline musical acts including the infectious rhythms of Tiken Jah Fakoly, the etheral Sa Dinding, the legendary Éthiopiques and the exquisite Yungchen Lhamo. There will also be a dazzling seafront Parade, Wagon Circle frolics at Port Whoopee!, a death-defying 3D pavement art exhibition, Axis Mundi projection installation, all day events in the Kingston Garden - including late night jazz sessions, a Poetry Slam, International Storytelling and a Japanese Tea House hosted by two genuine Geisha from Kyoto.

In addition the ever popular Global Village presents a textile showcase and our Dún Laoghaire Mela, celebrating South Asian arts, features a dramatic Kathakali play. This year Deán Nós/Bris Nós takes place throughout the Kingston Hotel with unique Irish and international collaborations including Kíla’s Rossa Ó Snodaigh with Morocco’s Hassan Erraji at the Festival Club. The vibey new Festival Café offers a diverse range of gourmet food traders, a Purty Kitchen Festival Café Bar and bouncy summer tunes from the Mr Whippy Soundsystem.

With over 250,000 people in attendance at last year’s 3 day festival, this year’s line-up is sure to entice and tease some more, presenting jaded Irish ears with some of the most exciting new sounds of 2008.
