Michael is 26 years old, originally from Waterford and currently living in Dublin. He is a jobbing actor and singer and has performed professionally on Irish stages in 'Michael Collins – The Musical', Gaiety shows such as Jack and the Beanstalk and 42nd Street, Pirates of Penzance in The Helix and Sleeping Beauty in Cork Opera House. He trained at The Academy of Musical Theatre in Newport in Wales and graduated in 2006.
Michael says he used to play hurling in school and despite being the captain, was useless! When he started going to drama class at 10 years old, he says he finally found something he was good at. His eureka moment in musical theatre was when his local drama group was invited to perform at The Royal National Theatre in London. It's a 2000 seater theatre and was full on the day, he says being on the stage made him realise musical theatre was what he wanted to do with his life.
Michael absolutely loves 'Fame The Musical' and says it is one of his favourite musicals. He says getting the role of Nick would not only make all his hard work through college and afterwards worthwhile, but would also make his family very proud. Although he has been working in musical theatre for some years, Michael has never played the leading man, so he is hoping that Fame The Musical might be his big chance to do so in a major production.
