Episode 8: Valerie Sheehy
Q: Explain your Dragon's Den experience?
A: The minute I walked into the Den, I felt at ease! I loved every minute of it. From walking up the stairs to speaking to Richard Curran at the end of the day. I would certainly go through the whole experience all over again.
Q: Who was the toughest Dragon?
A: I actually didn't find any of them tough. I was a bit nervous about Gavin. Part of me was expecting to be grilled but they were all very pleasant to me.
Q: Were you nervous?
A: I was more nervous in the build up to the Den than I was when I actually walked in there.
Q: Were you surprised by some of the questions?
A: I wasn't surprised as I had spent 6 weeks preparing for it. I had researched questions that Dragons and Investors ask on Google. I watched old episodes of Dragons Den over and over. I practiced my pitch in front of small and large groups of people. I had voice coaching. I spoke with ex Entrepreneurs from previous episodes. I had lessons in interview skills and techniques. I visited the venue a week before filming so I got familiar with the environment before I walked into the Den.
Q: Who was most interested in your idea?
A: I felt Barry and Peter were equally as interested in my idea.
Q: Would you have done anything differently?
A: No, I can't say that I would change anything about the day.
Q: Would you recommend applying for Dragon's Den to any other budding entrepreneurs?
A: I would most definitely recommend applying for Dragons' Den. It was the most exciting, liberating and challenging experience of my life to date.
Q: What does this mean to you personally?
A: This opportunity means the world to me. I am following a dream. I didn't want to be unemployed so I created a job for myself. I will make this business a success. I want My Poncho brand to be the Nike of Ponchos!
Q: In five year's time where do you see your product/company?
A: I will make the most of this opportunity. The exposure alone from appearing on the Den will be instrumental in My Poncho's growth. Having two dragons invest is the icing on the cake. I see my product expand into multiple markets throughout Ireland. I also see My Poncho's exporting to Europe. I want to see My Ponchos everywhere!
Q: What is your lasting memory of the Den?
A: Walking in and trying to turn my pop up banner around for the Dragons to see but as I did, it shut closed! I hadn't even said Hello Dragons!
Q: At any point did you think you wouldn't get the investment?
A: Prior to the show, I had tried to think as positively as possible. However, I don't think anyone who walks up there ever really knows until they have shook hands with one or more of the Dragons!
