Episode 3: Leslie Dwyer
Q: Explain your Dragon's Den experience?
A: The experience to date has been fantastic. The staff at ShinAwiL was wonderful and helped enormously in ensuring that I was well prepared for the pitch.
On the day you are surrounded with professional people who do their absolute best to ensure that the filming goes well and you give it your best shot. On a personal level and as I said during my pitch, I had a deep fear of public speaking and appearing on camera. The whole Dragon's Den experience has helped me immensely in overcoming these fears.
Q: Who was the toughest Dragon?
A: They were all tough - and as I was going in with what is a start-up business with a technology that is not commonplace or easy to understand, they had every right to be tough.
Q: Were you nervous?
A: Adrenaline is a powerful natural hormone so leading up to it, no - not until I got in front of the cameras.
When I finished my two minute pitch the cameras were stopped and I was told that I had to do it all over again as my microphone wasn't working.
The "shakes" that were there for the first pitch thankfully disappeared for the "second" pitch. But the nerves didn't. Healthy nerves - nerves that show tell you care about what you are doing and want the right outcome.
Q: Were you surprised by some of the questions?
A: There were no questions asked, or comments made, that surprised me.
Q: Who was most interested in your idea?
A: None of the five dragons showed any level of interest greater than the other.
Q: Would you have done anything differently?
A: I would have loved to have my distribution agreement signed and have had some of the clinical research carried out.
Q: Would you recommend applying for Dragon's Den to any other budding entrepreneurs?
A: I would highly recommend it. If for nothing else the publicity and I sincerely hope it is true that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Q: In five year's time where do you see your product/company?
A: In five years' time my company will be a household name.
Q: What is your lasting memory of the Den?
A: Barry asking me if I watched "Only Fools And Horses"?
