Episode 3: Kevin Hester

Kevin Hester

It was a fantastic experience and we were made very welcome, the production team was very friendly and they really made me feel relaxed.

Q: Who was the toughest Dragon?
A: Bobby was the toughest dragon. He went into figures in more detail then I thought he would. I was working my figures without VAT and Bobby was working with VAT which got me confused!

Q: Were you nervous?
A: Look at the recording, yes very nervous. In fact, I was never as nervous in my life.

Q: How did you prepare?
A: I prepared my figures so I knew my three year forecast. I also got all of the packaging made up so I could show them what it would look like when it went to market. I rehearsed my pitch with my brother at home, and he gave me a few pointers, he is in the same business so he knew what I was talking about. They still managed to ask me tricky questions though.

Q: Was it as you expected it to be?
A: No it was a lot tougher then I thought it would be.

Q: Were you surprised by some of the questions?
A: Yes I was very surprised they went in deeper than I thought they would. They went into certifications which I didn't expect. They also asked me if I had spoken to the makers of the boilers, which I hadn't. Then they asked me how would the plumbers react to it, I didn't expect that to come up ether. I answered as well as I could on the spot.

Q: Who was most interested in your idea?
A: Sarah (joke).Sean seemed to be the most interested. He said he was warming to the idea, so when he said that I thought I could be in with a chance. I was surprised when Bobby came in, I thought it would be more down Gavin's ally, but he bowed out when Sean and Bobby came in.

Q: Would you have done anything differently?
A: I would have had a couple of large brandy's before I went up!

Q: Has entering the den changed your perception of business in any way?
A: Yes it would really make you give deep consideration to any other business plan or idea. You really need to believe in your product because you really have to fight for it in the Den.

Q: Would you recommend applying for Dragon's Den to any other budding entrepreneurs?
A: I would recommend it, but I don't think I would recommend any one with half an idea.

Q: What does this mean to you personally?
A: When I came down the stairs after getting two dragons on my side I just felt on top of the world and it was a great boost to my confidence.
