RTÉ Dance On The Box

It's time for dancing in Dublin again. The 2012 Dublin Dance Festival high-kicks off on Friday 11 May and from Monday 14 to Friday 25 May, RTÉ Two joins in with a retrospective of the hugely successful RTÉ Dance On The Box films. Commissioned by RTÉ and the Arts Council and premiered for our television audiences during the Dublin Dance Festivals in 2006, 2008 and 2010, the twelve films have been seen by over a million viewers at home as well as all over the world in dance and film festivals in Africa, Australia, Europe, South America and the USA.

In advance of their TV screenings, we asked you to take a look at the RTÉ Dance On The Box films below and vote for your favourite - the winner to be included in a special film screening during the Festival. Five days of online voting rallied supporters far and near to vote for their favourite RTÉ Dance on the Box film. An early lead for 'Why the Irish Dance That Way' looked like it would just edge ahead of nearest contender 'Deep End Dance'. In a dramatic bid for victory, 'Mo Mhórchoir Féin - A Prayer" pulled into the top three with just one day to go. A nail-biting final few hours saw pole position change hands a couple of times, with WildFire Films' 'Deep End Dance', choreographed by David Bolger of CoisCéim and directed by Conor Horgan, declared the winner at 5.00pm on Friday April 27th, with 29% of the votes. In all, 4,357 votes were cast - thank you to all who watched, shared and voted for the 12 RTÉ Dance on the Box films. And don't forget to tune into RTÉ Two to see all 12 films between May 14-25!

And RTÉ is delighted to be supporting Dublin Dance Festival 2012 through a competition for RTÉ Guide readers with Festival ticket prizes and reminders on the RTÉ.ie home page about the Festival shows.

Artists from over seventeen countries, as well as Irish dancers and choreographers, will be bringing Dublin audiences, says Festival Director Julia Carruthers, "revolution, comedy, intrigue, a choir, a coffin, slapstick, invisible objects, virtuoso performers and much more." There really is something for everyone in the Festival programme - take a look here...

So c'mon, let RTÉ Dance On The Box and the Dublin Dance Festival take you dancing.
