Dan is (still) an unemployed aspiring filmmaker, an (adopted) only child who lives with his deeply religious parents in Dalkey, South County Dublin. He remains convinced of his creative talents and sex-appeal despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Dan discovered that he was adopted on his 18th Birthday when his parents finally decided it was time to tell him the truth. They were reluctant to tell him prior to this for fear of how he would take the news. They were right to be. Dan refused to speak to them for six months and then falsely announced to his parents (who he now refused to call Mum and Dad) that he was gay, knowing that this would be particularly difficult for them to accept. He kept up the charade for a full year, camping it up, dressing more flamboyantly and speaking openly about his boyfriends over Sunday dinner. To his chagrin Pat and Anne never mouthed a single word of disapproval though secretly they were very upset and regularly prayed for Dan's soul. He suspected the news had upset them and eventually began to let the façade slip. He never told them the truth though. Pat and Anne believed their prayers were beginning to work and doubled their efforts.
Dan loves being on the dole but maintains this is merely a temporary situation while he develops various film scripts. To date, he hasn't actually made even a short film, but when he eventually does he's sure Hollywood will come knocking and he'll be ready with a number of feature scripts already developed. Dan has other talents too. He's an all round singer/songwriter/poet/photographer/artist. Basically, if it's creative he's a master of it (in his head, at least).
Dan wrongly believes that he is a ladies man. He remembers a time when he used to score beautiful girls like Becs every other week. In fact, this was never the case. When he did rarely score, the girls were either complete mingers/tools or they quickly grew tired of Dan. For some reason, Becs saw something in Dan that no one else did and she's managed to bring out a side of Dan that she, at least, feels is worth holding onto. All her friends think she's mad. All Dan's friends think he's seriously jammy.www.bebo.com/irishpartylad
Becs is an aspiring actress. She comes from a wealthy Dalkey family. Dad was high up in a well known bank but took early retirement following a series of financial scandals; and Mum runs a small clothing boutique in Glasthule.
Becs went to school in Mount Anvil, is intelligent, but had to work hard to get her place doing ESS in Trinity. She dropped out half way through first year. Next, she studied Arts in UCD, taking Psychology, English and Social Studies. She lasted the full year but dropped out at the end when she failed English and Psychology and couldn't be bothered coming back from her J1 to take the repeats. "Mummy" and "Daddy" were not happy. When she eventually returned from America, she took a year out. She sponged off her parents initially, but was then forced to work in her mum's shop in Glasthule. She hated dealing with the girls looking for Debs dresses, especially the "Mounties", as she had to keep explaining why she was working there instead of going to Trinity.
While in America, Becs lost weight due to a combination of an eating disorder and lack of money to buy food. She saw this as a very positive experience and signed up with a modeling agency upon her return home. She discovered she loved fashion and took up a fashion design course in Ballyfermot. After some bad experiences working as a "model", Becs decided to focus on her acting career. Her big break came playing the romantic lead in the cult, Irish sci-fi hit "The Celtic Tigers of Pale City."
Becs is quite melodramatic. Every day is either completely terrible or absolutely fabulous and there's always a long-winded story to explain why. Becs won't admit to herself that her previous relationships all ended because the guys were horrible and she never really liked them in the first place, so she has become obsessed with relationship guides and self-help books. She senses things aren't going as well as they could with Dan and feels these books contain the answer.www.bebo.com/poshbecs
