Sandra Fitzgerald, 20, Glasnevin, Dublin:
Sandras quirky nature and funky style completely clash with the ballet world. A budding hairstylist, Sandra doubts she could ever be taken seriously as a ballerina as she refuses to lose her sense of individuality.
A decade of hip-hop dancing behind her, Sandra will find it hard to conform to the rigid and controlled world of ballet.
Donking Rongavilla, 27, (orig. Phillipines) Newbridge, Co Kildare:
Donking summed up ballet in one word- boring! As a regular hip-hop champion, Don's feet are rarely on the ground as he back-flips and windmills around the dancefloor.
Don, who teaches hip-hop both in Dublin and at home in Newbridge, might find being the student is the biggest challenge.
Matthew Williamson, 19, Clonsilla, Dublin
The ultimate b-boy, for Matthew and his crew "Raw Edge" hip-hop is a way of life. Credited as a born entertainer by his family and friends, he is the boy least likely to don a pair of tights.
Matthew wants to do ballet "for the laugh", but will Monica wipe the smile off his face?
Ian Harris, 14, Hartstown, Dublin:
The youngest of the group, Ian is 14 and doing his Junior Cert. Ian aspires to have a career in dance, and is really excited at the prospect of learning a whole new dance form.
Does Ian have the determination and maturity to meet the challenge?
Stacey Grimes, 16, Sheriff Street, Dublin:
Stacey has a huge task ahead of her- not only is she learning ballet in a matter of months, but she's also doing her Leaving Cert this year. A real homebird, her family are incredibly proud of her achievements and will be very supportive in the months ahead.
Despite her hip-hop background, Stacey managed to impress Monica with her flexibility and grace at the auditions.
Annaleigh Meegan, 23, Clogherhead, Co. Louth:
Annaleigh is no stranger to the stage having performed in pantomimes and shows for almost a decade. From an early start as a Spice Girl wannabe, Annaleigh matured into hip-hop dancing.
As a young girl she would look longingly through the window at ballet class, and so learning ballet is the realisation of a childhood dream.
