Episode 5: First-time parents
Gerry, Irma and Jake
With no experience of parenthood Irma Fernandez and partner Gerry Kavanagh are bringing up new born baby Jake literally by the book.
Irma is from Madrid in Spain and met Dubliner Gerry eight years ago when she was working at a busy Playwright bar in Blackrock, Co Dublin.
With baby Jake on board it led to big changes in Irma and Gerry's lifestyle - the biggest being a move from their busy social apartment life in Dublin to a family home in a new estate in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
Irma and Gerry are following a strict routine with one-week old Jake being fed at set times around the clock, which they are finding quite hard to keep up with.
Doreen is on hand to if she can lend support to new Mum Irma.
Irma's parents live in Spain and can't travel so have not yet met baby Jake. Doreen persuades Irma and Gerry to take the brave step of taking 6 week old Jake on a plane to surprise his grand parents in Spain and gives advise on what to pack.
Irma also found being a new mother quite lonely and felt isolated in her new surroundings. Being with baby all day is proving hard to adapt to for a young active mother like Irma. On Doreen's advice she decides to meet the world outside and start a Mum and toddler group.
